LAWRENCE CO.— As the investigation into the shooting death of a Vincennes, Ind., man expands, authorities have taken Dawn M. Mayden, 28, of 1008 11th St., Lawrenceville.

Mayden is said to be the girlfriend of Robert Hutchinson, of Lawrenceville.

Authorities say that she knowingly destroyed physical evidence in an attempt to prevent the prosecution of Hutchinson.

Hutchinson, along with Robert Malone, of Vincennes and Jack Harris, of Oblong are all three charged with two counts of Murder and one count of Conspiracy to Commit Murder.

Investigators believe the three men entered the home of Christopher Melton, 55, of 810 North Sixth St., Vincennes, on March 25 with intent to rob him.

Information filed in the case alleged that Hutchinson confessed his role, saying that he was told by Harris to stand by the back door of the house while Harris and Malone entered through the front.

Hutchinson then allegedly said that when he heard three gunshots he entered the house to find Malone holding a handgun and Melton bleeding from his head.

He also allegedly told authorities that Harris handed him Melton’s laptop, tablet, iPhone and $70 in cash, ordering him his destroy the items and to burn his clothes.

Hutchinson claims he threw several of the items in a Lawrence County creek and burned the clothes he was wearing while at Melton’s house.

Harris also allegedly offered Hutchinson $5,000 to keep his mouth shut about the murder.

Hutchinson told police he refused the payoff.

Harris’ family tells Disclosure that they cannot not fathom Harris being involved in killing Melton because they were very close.

On May 2, prior to her arrest in connection with the murder, Mayden was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct after authorities say she was standing outside her 11th Street home “screaming at family members” disrupting the entire neighborhood.

She bonded herself out of jail later that same day after posting $150 cash.

Mayden was taken into custody May 13 by Lawrenceville Chief of Police Jim White.

She is currently being held on $5,000 cash bond.
