WAYNE CO., Ill.--A single-car accident took the life of a young Cisne woman last night (Wednesday, May 13).
According to Illinois State Police who worked the crash, Cassandra L. Billington, 19, of Cisne, was traveling southbound on U.S. Route 45 one-half mile south of the Clay County line at about 10:37 p.m. last night.
At that time, and for reasons undetermined at this time, the 2012 Chevy Malibu she was driving crossed the northbound lane and exited the roadway to the east, before striking a field culvert and overturning. Billington, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was ejected from the vehicle and subsequently pronounced deceased at the crash scene by the Wayne County Coroner. There were no passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by ISP District 19.
ISP District 19 was assisted at the crash scene by the Wayne County Sheriff's Department, Clay County Sheriff's Department, Wayne County Coroner's Office and the Bedford Township Fire Department.
