GET OUT THE VOTE: Hamilton’s towns, villages, decide on candidates

HAMILTON CO., Ill.---Nothing stirs up the populace like an imposition on their property or taxes.

And in the city of McLeansboro, the former is just the thing that occurred...and the latter might ultimately be the result of it, unless voters select wisely today.

Here now is the coverage of the ballot issues as they impact the towns and villages in Hamilton County, Zoning last year prompts a bit of a contest in McLeansboro; other offices coming open:

Turmoil within the city of McLeansboro a year ago over zoning ordinances may have been what prompted a busy ballot for this year’s Consolidated Election.

At least in McLeansboro, there are contests for ward alderman that may or may not have been present had the big blowup last April, which prompted heavily-attended meetings of not only city government but of board of zoning (yet another layer of government for which Illinois is so infamous) as well.

In McLeansboro’s Ward 1, Mark A. Beck and Rodney Campbell vie for that seat.

No one has challenged Donald L. Cox for the seat in Ward 2.

However, in Ward 3, it’s a contest between Michael Stanart and Dale Biggerstaff.

Villages

In Hamilton’s outlying villages, there are at least names on the ballot, which is different than in many counties surrounding it.

A mayoral seat is open in Belle Prairie as an unexpired two-year term, and Jerry McGill will be seated in that office as he’s the only candidate.

Otherwise in Belle Prairie, two village trustee seats are available to the two candidates seeking them: Alfred Keith Rubenacker and Delois Grubb.

In the village of Broughton, three village trustee seats will be filled by the three seeking those: Julie Miller, David Sivok and Mollie Sivok.

The same goes for the village of Dahlgren: Frank Elliott...
