FLORA, Ill.---Authorities in Flora this morning were fielding a rush of calls and other forms of communication about a stabbing that had been reported just before sunrise.
However, Police Chief John Nicholson says the whole thing is unresolved at this time; and with information authorities have gathered, it appears it might have just been an accident, and may not have been a stabbing at all.
Nicholson confirmed that at about 5:45 this morning (Saturday, March 28), a call came in to authorities from a gentleman who will remain unnamed for the time being that a "buddy of his came by with a small laceration on his hip." The buddy had popped up at this man's house at about 1 a.m., the caller said, and was "drunk and really trashed." There was no information from authorities of whether the caller told them HOW the "small laceration" had been sustained on the buddy's hip.
However, the caller advised that he'd "previously been an Army medic," looked at it and "it didn't amount to anything, so I put a couple of stitches in it, patched it up, and he's okay."
Then this man, having dressed the wound of his buddy, sat around and smoked cigarettes with him for awhile; then the buddy left...whereupon the gentleman called in to the police department to advise of the situation.
A little further investigation by authorities turned up that the stitched-up buddy had checked in by text at about 7 a.m., advising that he was okay and apparently sleeping it off.
There was no further information to be had about the situation, Nicholson said; authorities are looking into it, but it doesn't appear that any arrests are imminent.
